iPad winner announced in TERENA 25 video contest

Congratulations to Tomi Dolenc of ARNES (Slovenia), who is the winner of the video competition celebrating TERENA's 25 years in research and education networking. Tomi's video, entitled "Internet of people", was commended by TERENA president Janne Kanner as he awarded the prize during the closing plenary session of this year's TERENA Networking Conference (TNC). "Tomi's video contains a very humane message which fits nicely with TERENA's goals and all we are doing here at the TERENA Networking conference."

In total 33 videos were accepted for the contest, with submissions from 19 countries. Spain and the Netherlands contributed the largest number of entries. The videos were very varied in approach and content. Several used animation, graphics or effects to take full advantage of the video medium, while others were simple recordings of contestants explaining their thoughts about the competition question "how will the Internet change people's lives in the next 25 years".

The panel of judges, led by Janne Kanner, were very pleased with the level of response to the competition and were impressed by the skill and effort involved in many of the productions. They agreed, however, that their main consideration was content and the ideas conveyed. Tomi's video has a simple but powerful message: keep people and human interaction at the heart of Internet development over the coming 25 years, rather than focusing on how objects may be hooked up to the network.

A close runner-up that was highly commended by the judges was "The Internet and my life", which was submitted by Emilie-Jayne Carrington from the Netherlands. "It was a very close call to figure out who would win first place. We give an honorary mention to the runner up video which contains nice views about the future and a personal touch."

TERENA and the judging panel thank all contestants for their contributions.
