Industry: partners or commercial suppliers? Save to my Google calendar

In the early days of the Internet, the research community worldwide was very much at the forefront of developments. Many new technologies and services that are now commonplace in the commodity Internet developed in collaboration between the research and higher-education world and industry. Now the Internet has grown much larger, there are many new and large user communities involved, and those may be more interesting to industry from a commercial point of view. Is the research and education (networking) community therefore now only one of the many classes of industry customers? Or are there still exciting opportunities for partnerships between R&E networking and industry? In a panel discussion, representatives of TERENA's industrial members will present their views on this question.
