IP - what happens now?

The free pool of IPv4 addresses has, after years of predictions, finally run out. Now what? While the situation is changing quickly, a lot is now known about what will change for us in the coming months. We still need to work to deploy IPv6, but until that work is complete, we have other challenges to face at the same time. This talk will describe the changes that we can expect in the coming months, and what the current thinking is on the longer term. It will cover what will happen when RIPE enters its new, conservative, mode of operation, and the impact that will have on the academic and NREN community. It will touch on the thorny topic of buying and selling address blocks - a practice that is both permitted by policy and already occurring.
