Project Moonshot ames to make federated authentication the norm, not a special case. The project focuses on bringing federation to all applications not just web single-sign-on. This is accomplished by reusing the best technology from network access and enterprise security along with existing federation components. Technology previews are available supporting applications from Ssh and grid computing to directory service, instant messaging and mail. This talk describes the current state of the Moonshot implementation effort as well as the related technology standardization effort within the IETF. Participants will be introduced to the capabilities of Moonshot, what Moonshot will mean operationally, and how they can participate in the project. More broadly, the talk will discuss lessons learned and how we are trying to conduct a project that combines elements of research while forming the basis for an open-source community and vendor adoption. See http://www.project-moonshot.org for more details.
